Born on 16 December 1984 in Guwahati, Shrimati Anwesa Mahanta
received her training in Sattirya dance under Shri Ghanakanta Bora.
Shrimati Anwesa Mahanta has given Sattriya performances in many prestigious events such as Nritya Pratibha and Nritya Sangam of Sangeet Natak Akademi, HCL Concert Series at India Habitat Centre, Nritya Parva of Sattriya Kendra, SPIC MACAY performances in Bangalore, Bharatiyam Festival in Bhubaneswar, among many others. She has also travelled abroad for performances at the University of Performing Arts, Colombo, Sri Lanka; Nehru Centre, London, UK; Asia Society, Hong Kong, China; University of Otago, New Zealand; University of Waikato, New Zealand, and My Dance Festival, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has also conducted many workshops and has several research publications to her credit on Sattriya.
Shrimati Anwesa Mahanta has received an ICH grant from Sangeet Natak Akademi to pursue her research work; she is an empanelled artist with ICCR and is an A Grade artiste of Prasar Bharati. She is also the Festival Director of the Pragjyoti International Dance Festival and continues to work towards the promotion of the dance heritage of Assam.
Shrimati Anwesa Mahanta is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for her notable talent in the field of Sattriya dance.
