Born on 8 June 1977 in Chennai; obtained masters degree in law; iniiated into learning Music by Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadyay and trained in the art of Bharatanatyam under his mother Smt. Sudha Rani Raghupathi; specialized as a Mridangam player and trained under M. Balachander, M.S. Murali, Shri Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman and Late Shri Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan; also proficient in playing instruments like Udukkai – Folk (Skin Instrument) of Tamil Nadu, Kanjira and Conch; accompanied eminent Bharatanatyam artists such as Padma Subramaniam, Chitra Visweswaran, Sudha Rani Raghupathy, Dhananjayan and senior musicians including Madhurai and Krishnan, Y.G. Parthasarthi, T.T. Vasu, M. Krishna Swami, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, A.R. Rahman and Dr N. Balamurali Krishna; played Mridangam for several commercial and other recordings and has released his own composition titled – “Jathis for Bharatanatyam” in April, 2007; a recipient of many awards and honours including The Best Lecture Demonstration Award in 20th Natya Kala Conference of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Kalaimamani Award for the Government of Tamil Nadu (2003), Yuva Kala Bharathi from Bharat Kalachar (1998) and Laya Kala Vipanchee (2007). Shri Anirudha receives the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purskar for Music for dance – Bharatanatyam Mridangam.
