Born on 12 May 1983, Jayan Saritha Leela
did her M.A. in Commerce from Kerala
University and B.A. Diploma in
Bharatanatyam from Bharati Dasan
University. She joined Sopanam at the
age of 14 under the director-ship of Shri
Kavalam Narayana Panikkar. She
participated in all the productions of
Sopanam both in Sanskrit and
Malayalam. She has performed at major
theatre festivals of India.
Rigorous training in Mohiniattam since childhood, exposure to classical dance and music, and martial arts as part of theatre-activity at Sopanam, helped her to demonstrate nuances of Natya Shastra as lead actress in famous plays like Vikramorvasiyam, Malavikagnimitram, S h a k u n t a l am, K a r n a b h a r am, U r u b h a n g am, C h a r u d a t t am, Kal lurut ty, Theyyatheyyam and Ottamulachi.
She has also performed Mohiniattam at Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Swarna Nritya Pratibha Dance festival besides other dance festivals. She has received the Young Artists’ Scholarship from the Department of Culture, Government of India, and also the Inlaks India Theatre Awards in 2009.
