Born on 19 October 1980, Vishal Jain
received his early training in music from
his mother Sundari Jain and later from
Madhav Raje. He further honed his style
by learning at the Dhrupad Kendra,
Bhopal from Shri Zia Fariduddin Dagar,
renowned Dhrupad vocalist of Dagar
Gharana.
He is a recipient of a national
scholarship from the Ministry of Culture.
He has also received a national
fellowship for research work by the
University Grants Commission, Delhi.
He is a graded artist with All India Radio
and has performed widely in many
prestigious festivals of Dhrupad in the
country including Swami Haridas
Sangeet Sammelan, Mumbai; Dhrupad
Mela, Varanasi; National Youth Festival,
Kolhapur and Jamshedpur; and Aaswad
Sangeet Samaroh, Bhopal.
Vishal Jain has received many
prestigious awards including the Young
Artist’s Award by Sangeet Research
Academy at NCPA Mumbai, and the
Surmani Award by Sur Singar Samsad,
Mumbai. Presently, he is doing research
work on Dhamar Gaya under the
supervision of Dr Ritwik Sanyal,
Professor and Head of the Department
of Performing Arts at Benaras Hindu
University, Varanasi.
