अरविन्द पारिख



Born in 1927 in Ahmedabad, Shri Arvind Natverlal Parikh began his training in the Sitar under Shri Vilayat Khan in the 1940s, and had continued his discipleship until the Ustad’s recent demise. Shri Parikh thus represents the Imdadkhani school of Hindustani instrumental music and ranks high among Sitar exponents today. He has performed regularly over the years, both on the stage and on All India Radio, and has produced a number of gramophone records, audiocassettes, and CDs of his music. He has also published several articles on music.
Apart from practising music, Shri Parikh has been active in promoting discussion and exchange in his chosen field, and has organized about twenty-five seminars to date. He has also participated in seminars in Britain, the Netherlands, and Iran. He is a Trustee on the Board of the Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, and is the Coordinator for the Indian subcontinent on the International Music Council of Unesco. He is also a member of the International Society of Music Education, Australia. Shri Parikh has a number of students in India and other countries performing instrumental music, as well as researching and writing on the subject.
For his service to music, Shri Parikh has been honoured with the Gaurav Puraskar of Gujarat for 1997-98.
Shri Arvind Parikh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
