NITYANAND HALDIPUR
Akademi Award: Hindustani Instrumental Music (Flute)

Born in n 1948 in Bombay, Shri Nityanand Haldipur was initiated into music by his father Shri Niranjan Haldipur. In later years he studied the flute under Shri Pannalal Ghosh, Chidanand Nagarkar, and Devendra Murdeshwar. Since 1986, he has received training in the art from Shrimati Annapurna Devi, the eminent musician of the Maihar gharana, under whose guidance he has won renown in the field.

A flutist of eminence, Shri Nityanand Haldipur is known for his contemplative alap in the manner of Dhrupad and his distinctly formated jod and jhala. His lilting drut renderings contain a fascinating variety of rhythmic patterns. A top-ranking artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has performed both in the National Programme of Music and All India Radio Sangeet Sammelans. He has also worked as a staff artist with All India Radio from
1986 to 2008. He has presented recitals in many major festivals in India and abroad, and has produced a number of CDs and audio-cassettes.

Shri Nityanand Haldipur receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
